Terms of Service

Last updated: 30 March 2026

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Laterals website at trylaterals.com and the Laterals platform (together, the "Service"), operated by Laterals Group Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with its registered address at The Department, Clarence Dock, 4 The Blvd, Leeds, LS10 1PZ, United Kingdom ("we", "us", "our").

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

The Laterals platform is intended for use by qualified legal professionals and authorised representatives of law firms. By creating an account, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age and that the information you provide is accurate and complete.

3. Account registration

To use certain features of the Service, you must create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

You agree to notify us immediately at contact@trylaterals.com if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.

4. The platform

Laterals provides a platform that enables attorneys to anonymously approach law firms with an expression of interest in lateral opportunities. The platform facilitates confidential introductions between attorneys and law firms.

We do not act as an employment agency or recruitment business. We do not guarantee that use of the platform will result in any particular outcome, including but not limited to interviews, offers of employment, or successful placements.

5. Anonymous briefs and content

When you create an anonymous brief on the platform, you are solely responsible for the content you include. You represent that all information in your brief is accurate, truthful, and not misleading.

You retain ownership of the content you create. By submitting content to the platform, you grant us a limited licence to use, store, and transmit that content solely for the purpose of operating the Service and delivering your brief to the firms you select.

We reserve the right to remove or decline to distribute any content that we reasonably believe to be inaccurate, misleading, offensive, or in breach of these Terms.

6. Confidentiality and identity

Your identity is never disclosed to any law firm unless you provide explicit, per-firm consent. This is a core principle of the Service.

When you consent to reveal your identity to a specific firm, you acknowledge that the Laterals team will facilitate the formal introduction. Once your identity has been disclosed to a firm with your consent, we cannot reverse that disclosure.

You agree not to include personally identifiable information in your anonymous brief (such as your name, current firm name, or contact details) that would compromise the anonymity of the platform.

7. Law firm users

If you are accessing the Service as a representative of a law firm, you represent that you have authority to act on behalf of that firm. You agree to treat all anonymous briefs and candidate information received through the platform as confidential and not to attempt to identify anonymous candidates through external means.

Law firms agree not to share, forward, or distribute anonymous briefs or candidate information received through Laterals to any third party without the prior written consent of Laterals Group Ltd.

8. Fees

The Laterals platform is free to use for attorneys. There is no cost to create an account, write an anonymous brief, or approach firms.

Laterals is compensated by the hiring law firm only in the event of a successful placement resulting from an introduction made through the platform. The terms of any such arrangement are agreed separately between Laterals Group Ltd and the hiring firm.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.
  • Provide false, misleading, or fraudulent information in your account registration or anonymous brief.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service, other accounts, or any systems or networks connected to the Service.
  • Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm any other user or third party.
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access or collect data from the Service without our prior written consent.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.
  • Attempt to identify anonymous candidates through means outside the platform.

10. Intellectual property

All intellectual property rights in the Service, including but not limited to the website, platform, branding, design, and underlying technology, are owned by or licensed to Laterals Group Ltd. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or other proprietary materials without our prior written consent.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Laterals Group Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities arising from your use of the Service.

We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any content on the platform, including anonymous briefs submitted by other users. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user of the Service, whether online or offline.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you have paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater.

12. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties or representations, express or implied, regarding the Service, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any defects will be corrected.

13. Termination

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Upon deletion, your personal data, anonymous briefs, and approach history will be permanently removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or if continued access poses a risk to the Service or other users.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the platform or by email. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from or in connection with these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
